Grief descended upon Lela village in East Yimbo, Bondo Sub County, following a heartbreaking accident that claimed the lives of two young children.

Collins Obunga Oduor, aged 7, and Trevor Morgan Ochieng, aged 4, tragically lost their lives when the wall of an abandoned, roofless house fell on them.

The incident occurred around 3 pm on Thursday as the children were playing near the dilapidated structure.

The collapse of the semi-permanent house has left the community in mourning and calls for urgent action to address the safety hazards posed by such neglected buildings.

According to Siaya County police commandant Cleti Kimaiyo, the matter was reported by East Yimbo location chief Patrick Ochola.

Cleti disclosed that when police officers from Got Matar police post and DCI officers from Bondo visited the scene, they established that the two children died on the spot after sustaining fatal injuries on their chests, heads and broken limbs.

The police boss further explained that the walls of the abandoned house were weak after strong winds had earlier blown off the roof.
