State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed on Wednesday night dismissed claims by activist Morara Kebaso that President William Ruto reached out to him and even offered a job.

Speaking on Citizen TV, Hussein said he was shocked that Morara would lie on National TV that the President called him, terming it ‘unbelievable’.

He insisted that such a call never happened, and it is Morara’s ‘statement of imagination’.

“I am shocked at what Morara is saying. I wonder why he would lie on national TV that the President called him. It's ridiculous that I have to respond to this but let me do it because you Jeff let it happen on TV. For the record, such a call never happened. It is a statement of his imagination,” Hussein said in a live call.

Morara who has been leading an anti-government campaign, inspecting all ongoing and stalled projects launched by the government had said President Ruto called him.

He refused to make public details of their discussions, except that he was offered a job but declined to take it.

“Initially I had calls from people around the President. Then eventually I got a call from the President. I spoke to him very respectfully because he is our President and he has been given that mandate by the people. Whatever I was offered I refused. I was offered a state position. Serikali ni kubwa,” Morara said.

Hussein further called out Citizen TV’s Jeff Koinange for allowing Morara to make claims without asking for proof.

He insisted that the JKLive host should have used the words ‘alleged or claims’ instead of just buying what Morara had said.

“What is more shocking Jeff is that you can allow anyone to come on TV and tell you such a thing without demanding any proof or substantiation and you just buy it...All you should have done and said is those are his words or alleged claims from him, not just accept and say the president called him. Anybody can say that. Many people say that.

“A lot of Kenyans have the President’s number by the way. Let Morara substantiate that the President called him. He is lying. Will you allow anybody in Kenya to just walk into your studios and say he was called by the President and you just believe it? How can he prove it?” he posed.

In a statement on X later, Morara said he would not focus on proving whether the call happened or not.

He added that government spokesman Isaac Mwaura and the President are aware the call happened.

“I am not going to follow the footsteps of those leaders who used to record the president or put him on loudspeaker to prove a point. I don’t think it’s good manners. For that reason, I will not focus on proving whether or not it happened. Isaac Mwaura knows it happened. William Ruto knows it happened. End of story.”

Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura in response denied being aware of such a call.

He asked Morara to be honest with himself and show some patriotism.

Morara Kebaso, I am not aware of any call from the President to you. Please examine your conscience and show some patriotism. I just bumped into you at KICC like any other fellow citizen. Be honest with yourself,” he said
