The Masii Girls High School is not among the schools closed in Machakos County over fires that triggered student unrest.

Local dailies had earlier indicated that Masii Girls was among schools that sent students home due to school fires that triggered unrest.

Speaking to the Star on Monday, Masii Girls High School Principal Margaret Njeru rubbished the reports saying students are in school.

Njeru added that Masii Girls High School is calm with everything going well.

"We are in school, we are in session. My girls are in school, all of them and the teachers too. Our school is in session, and there is nothing like a flame of fire.

Njeru said that she has not received calls from parents because they know the children are safe in their school.

This comes at a time when the country is experiencing unrest due to fire tragedies that have so far taken place in several schools across the country.

On Friday last week, the country was shocked to learn of a fire tragedy at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri that claimed the lives of 21 children.

Three other learners at the Isiolo Girls High School sustained injuries after a fire ran through dormitories at the school on Saturday, sparking protests from locals.

Other schools where fire has been reported are Njia Boys High School, Uhuru Secondary School, Bukhalalire Secondary School in Busia County, and Ortum Boys in West Pokot County.

The cause of the blaze in the schools is still unknown, but there have been numerous fires in boarding schools in Kenya in recent years, prompting national concern about safety standards.

President William Ruto on Monday held a meeting with leaders from the Interior and Education ministries.

Ruto ordered a speedy conclusion of an investigation into the Hillside Endarasha Academy fire tragedy.

The President directed the two ministries to ensure compliance with school boarding regulations.

The President said compliance with government regulations on curbing fire accidents in learning institutions is not negotiable.

"This is the only insurance we have to effectively prevent the loss of life and limb in schools," he said.
