There was a standoff outside the Ministry of Education offices in Nairobi, CBD, after police lobbed teargas to disperse Technical University of Kenya students who were protesting.
The students were protesting against the closure of the university.
The university was closed on February 3, 2025, following a lecturers strike.
They had planned to present their grievances about reopening their institution, to the Ministry of Education offices.
The students were heard shouting, whistling and chanting in loud voices 'Comrades power! Power! Comrades viva! Viva.'
As they began marching the students in unison were again heard chanting 'Solidarity forever, solidarity forever and the union makes us strong'
When they arrived at the ministry offices the students stated that they would not leave until they had seen the Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba.
One of the students Moses Okal said they wanted clarity as to why the university had been closed.
He spoke about the solidarity of the neighbouring universities as they planned to find a solution to the ever-recurring problems.
"Next week they should expect more universities to help us in the protest if they do not give us an answer today," he said.
The students were denied entry into the Ministry offices.
They continued entertaining themselves by playing some football as they waited to see the CS.
