Over 65 per cent of Kenyans support Gachagua ouster, report shows

The public participation report also shows that 33.80 per cent are opposed to the ouster

A majority of Kenyans support the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi, findings of the public participation which was conducted by the National Assembly show.

Statistics from the report show 65.11 per cent of Kenyans who participated in the exercise support the impeachment while 33.80 per cent are opposed to it.

It further said 1.09 per cent gave other responses. The report said a total of 224, 907 participated in the exercise in 290 constituencies, who included 10 Kenyans in the diaspora.

Another 1,881 Kenyans participated in the exercise but did not fill out the forms. Those who supported the impeachment totalled 146,429 while 76,026 opposed the ouster bid.

A total of 2,452 Kenyans gave other opinions. Four Kenyans in the diaspora supported the impeachment, four opposed while two gave other responses.

Kipipiri constituency had the highest percentage of those who opposed the impeachment at 98.76 per cent. Kirinyaga Central, Balambala, Dadaab, Fafi, Kuresoi North, Lafey, Magarini, Madera South, Mogotio, had the highest percentage supporting the motion at 100.00 per cent.

The public participation was conducted on Friday and Saturday. The National Assembly has extended public participation to Saturday from 8am to 5pm following a High Court order directing the House to organise another round of the exercise in all constituencies.

This came after a petition filed by Muge Law Advocates on behalf of Kirinyaga Woman Representative Jane Njeri Maina.

The matter was certified as urgent.

Views were submitted in the form of written submissions and memoranda at all the 290 constituencies.
