At least five cases of suicide were separately reported to police in the last two days in a continuing and worrying trend.

The police say they are investigating the cases reported between October 12 and 14.

The first incident happened in Mowlem, Nairobi on October 14 where a tenant aged 21 was found dead after suspected suicide.

Police said the body of the man was found hanging on a rope on the rooftop of his rented house.

The body was later moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.

In Dandora’s Nairobi area, a man aged 34 died by suicide in his house.

Police said Gilbert Barasa Abuko died by suicide and attempts by his wife to save him did not bear fruits.

The family members who found him in the process of taking his life rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.

The motive of the incident is yet to be known.

In Shinyalu, Kakamega County, a 25-year-old man died by suicide in an abandoned house on Sunday.

The body of Malvin Zore was found hanging on the roof of an abandoned building in his grandmother’s compound.

The body was moved to Kakamega General Hospital awaiting autopsy.

The motive for the suicide is not known, police said.

In Chebunyo’s Kamaget location, Bomet County one Benjamin Chepkwony Kipkoech, 40, died by suicide on Sunday.

The man lived alone and died by hanging himself using a sisal rope inside his house, police said.

No suicide note was recovered at the scene and the motive is yet to be known.

The body was moved to Longisa County Referral Hospital Mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination.

In Kisumu’s Holo area, one Raban Owino Orieny, 40, died by suicide after swallowing a suspected poisonous chemical.

Locals said the deceased had earlier in the day on October 13 asked for forgiveness from anybody he had wronged before proceeding to his rented house.

Police officers visited the scene where the body was found with no physical injury apart from a foul smell.

No substance was recovered from the scene and no suicide note was recovered, police said.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.

The incidents are under probe.

Police say the trend has been worrying and increasing as up to two cases are reported daily.

The government says officials have rolled out programmes to help in managing the crisis.

The World Health Organisation says such cases are attributed to joblessness, death, academic failures or pressures, legal difficulties and financial difficulties.

Other reasons are bullying, previous suicide attempts, history of suicide in the family, alcoholism and substance misuse, depression and bipolar disorder.
