Police in Eldoret are investigating an incident in which the son of a prominent and accomplished large-scale farmer George Killi was crushed to death by a planter on their farm.
Uasin Gishu County police commander Benjamin Mwanthi confirmed that the incident was reported and is under investigation.
Tycoon Kili is one of the largest maize and wheat farmers in Rift Valley growing crops on more than 5,000 acres and the farms are highly mechanized.
The deceased Rodney Kili was calibrating a planter which was in motion when he accidentally slipped and fell under it.
“It was reported that the machine crushed him and he died soon after because of the resultant injuries,” said Mwanthi.
The family of the billionaire farmer has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of their son in the farm accident.
He has been described as a young ambitious and industrial farmer who worked tirelessly in implementing the new methods of farming to maximize production in Komool Farm and Buffalo Millers owned by the family.
Police removed the body and took it to a morgue in Eldoret.
