Four people have been arraigned before an Eldoret Court over the murder of former marathon athlete Samson Kandie
The suspects include Kandie’s wife Rose Chepkemboi Rotich who is a clinical officer based in Baringo County.
Kandie was found murdered at his Elgon View estate home in Eldoret city on October 3rd 2024.
The other three suspects include Jamlik Morgit, Kelvin Were Juma and Felix Murambi Kodek.
They appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Peter Ireri who allowed DCI to hold the suspects for 14 days to enable completion of investigations.
DCI officer Felix Chirchir said he was investigating the case of murder and needed the extra two weeks to complete investigations.
“We need more time to arrest other suspects, record witness statements and also take the suspects for mental assessment,” said the DCI officer.
The officer said he also needed time to get forensic data from Safaricom and Mpesa and also analyse other evidence in the case.
Two more suspects linked to the killing are being traced by the DCI after going missing.
The suspects did not oppose the application by the DCI and Ireri directed that the suspects be presented at the High Court on November 14, 2024, for further directions.
Ireri ordered that the suspects be held at the Langas Police Station as requested by the DCI
The courtroom was packed by athletes, family members and neighbours of the athlete.
Kandie was found badly tortured with his hands and legs tied with a rope behind a toilet at his home located in the upmarket Elgon View estate of Eldoret on October 2nd.
The family members including his daughter said he had called them saying he was on his way home but never arrived.
kandie was a reserved retired runner who lived a quiet life in Eldoret engaging in private business
He was buried at his home in Uasin Gishu County a week ago as police intensified a hunt for the suspects involved in the murder.
