Peter Okongo's legacy won't die! Kenya Editors Guild tribute to fallen scribe

Kenya Editors Guild (KEG) has penned a tribute to journalist Peter Okongo who died on Thursday, October 31, 2024. Peter was the Editorial Manager for Kenya Yearbook and a valued member of the Kenya Editors’ Guild.

Zubeidah Kananu the president of KEG, in the tribute, stated that Peter began his career at the Standard Media Group as a business editor, rising to the ranks of Deputy Managing Editor. He then later worked with the Nation Media Group.

Many journalists paying tribute have described Peter as a gentleman, great journalist and business editor who was down to earth and full of humility.

“His legacy and contributions to excellent business journalism will remain with us forever,” KEG said.

Zubeidah said Okong'o joined the Kenya Editors’ Guild in 2021 and was an active member who was fostering connections between the Guild and the Kenya Yearbook.

She also added that KEG had partnered with Kenya Yearbook. through which KEG received various publications to promote Kenya.

Okong'o had been unwell in August and September. After recuperating, he later returned to work in September.

 On Wednesday, October 30, he experienced a headache and chest pains, he bid his children good night and went to rest.

“Peter’s story shall live with us forever. May his family find comfort, and may his soul Rest in Peace,” said KEG.

Kenya Editors’ Guild said a condolence book has been provided at their office.
