Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has thanked his wife Joyce Kindiki for the great support that she has accorded him.

Speaking after he was sworn in on Friday, Kindiki said his wife has been the pillar of his family.

“May I also thank my wife who has sacrificed to raise our three children Imani, Nehema and Mwende,” he said.

Kindiki said Joyce made him serve the people of Kenya without any struggle.

“She raised the three children during the many days and nights that I was absent serving the country in many roles in the Public Service,” he said.

“I thank them for being the foundation and providing the support that I require e as I navigate this space.”

Kindiki further promised not to let President William Ruto down after he nominated him as the second in command.

“I have been your student for 20 years. I promise you that I will not let you down,” he said as ululations were heard from the crowd.

He said he will serve under Ruto and provide him with the assistance he will require.

“I will be loyal and faithful and I will try the best of my ability to work hard to lighten the burden that you carry on your shoulders,” he said.

Kindiki said whatever has happened in the last few weeks, and in the recent past, is a testament to the maturity of Kenya’s democracy and a testament that Kenya’s institutions work.

“Words fail me to explain how grateful I am today. I’m grateful to President Ruto for the honour he has given me to serve under him. I have been his political student for 20 years and nothing in the political space has helped me pick up lessons,” he said.

Earlier, Kindiki walked from Harambee Office to KICC accompanied by his wife whom they walked hand in hand.

Kindiki has replaced Rigathi Gachagua who was impeached.
