Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi is set to lead a high-profile delegation to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for the unveiling of Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's African Union Chairmanship candidature.

Mudavadi will lead the Kenyan delegation in championing Raila's vision for a unified and transformative Africa during the event that is set to an unveiling event that is set to gather key diplomatic figures across the continent.

“Mudavadi, who leaves the country tonight, will preside over a reception hosted by Kenya to mobilize support for Odinga’s candidature for the position of the AUC chairperson to all heads of diplomatic missions accredited to the African Union,” said the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs.

The event, organized by the Ministry under the leadership of Korir Sing’oei, Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, along with Raila Odinga’s Secretariat, headed by Ambassador Elkanah Odembo, is anticipated to be a significant step forward in rallying support for Odinga’s Pan-African priorities.

Mudavadi’s diplomatic engagement in Ethiopia builds on an official campaign launch held in Nairobi on August 27, 2024, spearheaded by President William Ruto.

“This engagement with the Permanent Representatives Committee of the AU is a follow-up to the official launch by President William Samoei Ruto of the former Prime Minister’s candidature in Nairobi on August 27 this year,” the statement states.

During the event, Raila will share his vision and strategic priorities, aimed at driving Africa’s socio-economic transformation.

The platform will enable him to engage with a network of African Union stakeholders, fostering partnerships and laying out his proposed agenda for the continent’s advancement.

This reception and unveiling ceremony is expected to set the tone for Raila's bid, galvanizing key support across the African continent as he aims to bring forth his transformative vision for the AUC.

The former prime minister was unveiled by President Ruto as Kenya's candidate for the AUC post on August 27, in a ceremony attended by several Presidents from East African countries.
