Deputy Government Spokesperson Mwanaisha Chidzuga has urged Kenyans to come out in large numbers and register for SHA.

In her address on Thursday in Makueni, Chidzuga said Kenyans should not wait to fall sick so that they can register themselves.

"Let's not wait until we are hospitalised to run up and down to register for this important service, the time is now," she said.

She acknowledged that health is a high contributor to poverty as it calls for Harambees from needy neighbours when someone is seriously ill.

"Fundraising for health expenses affects the rich and the poor, thus forcing families to sell land to pay for hospital bills something that SHA will sort," Mwanaisha noted.

The registration exercises are carried on by County Health Promoters at Huduma Centre across the Country and via the phone.

According to the Regional Manager for Eastern Region Brian Mugambi, the Kenyan Government has set aside Sh 9 billion to enable the service to run smoothly and settle all claims being raised from Nhif.

So far they have registered 248 public hospitals in Makueni and 38 Private hospitals and they now inviting the rest who are yet to register to visit their offices and get registered.

Chief Officer for Health in  Makueni County Stephen Ndolo in his speech called upon the residents to visit the public utilities near them.

Any patient will be able to get treated from Level 2 or Level 3 so long as they register whether from within Makueni or the neighbouring counties.

"We under Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr are fully incorporated into this health insurance and we do not want any of our citizens to be left behind, "noted Ndolo.

However, he mentioned that now at the piloting stage, there seem to be difficult issues but promised that all will be straight soon.

"SHA has teething problems but we will ensure we work closely with the National Government to make it work perfectly for Kenyans,

" "SHA got more successes than Nhif," added Ndolo.
