A Kenyan multi-agency delegation on Sunday visited the Caritas Shelter, a facility dedicated to housing Kenyans and other foreign nationals in distress.

This is in a bid to protect and support Kenyan nationals caught in Lebanon’s unfolding conflict.

The team was led by Margaret Wamoto, Director of Administration at the State Department for Diaspora Affairs, alongside Sayed Chalouhi, Kenya’s Honorary Consul in Lebanon.

Together, they held discussions with Caritas Internationalis leadership, reaffirming Kenya’s commitment to safeguarding its citizens during the regional crisis.

The Caritas Shelter, operated by Caritas Internationalis, one of the world’s largest humanitarian networks, has become a crucial haven for Kenyans seeking refuge from the conflict in Lebanon.

“We thank Caritas International for being a key partner in ensuring the safety of Kenyans during this regional crisis,” Wamoto said.

Her statement underscored the importance of international collaboration in providing urgent aid to displaced Kenyans.

In a meeting with the president of Caritas Shelter Reverend Father Michael Abbound and the Head of the Protection Department Hessen Sayyah, the delegation focused on strategies to enhance the welfare of Kenyans at the shelter.

Discussions highlighted the need for ongoing collaboration to champion the protection of the rights and welfare of Kenyans who find themselves in distress abroad.

Kenya's Immigration Attache to Kuwait Ibrahim Rashid also accompanied Wamoto and Chalouhi.

His presence was an assurance of the government’s priority of ensuring that Kenyans abroad receive timely assistance, particularly during crises.

With thousands of Kenyan expatriates working and living in Lebanon, the Caritas Shelter has become a vital resource during Lebanon’s recent turmoil.

The visit demonstrated Kenya’s proactive approach to aiding its citizens and working with international partners to ensure their well-being.

The State Department for Diaspora Affairs has committed to further engagements with Caritas Internationalis, underscoring its mission to champion the welfare of Kenyans globally.

This visit marks a significant step in Kenya’s broader strategy to create robust support networks for its diaspora, ensuring no Kenyan is left behind in times of need.
