Ruto nominates Nyaoma as CBK deputy governor

President William Ruto has nominated Gerald Nyaoma as the Second Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK).

Nyaoma, who is a career central banker with an impressive 36 years of experience currently serves as Director of the Bank Supervision Department at CBK.

Known for his dedication to safeguarding Kenya's financial stability, Nyaoma has played critical roles within the institution over the years.

His extensive resume includes leadership positions as Director of Financial Markets Development, Director of Banking Services, and Senior Manager of the National Payment Services Division. 

“With a background in critical roles across CBK, Mr. Nyaoma’s nomination aligns with our goals to enhance Kenya’s financial stability and regulatory strength,” Head of Public Service Felix Koskei said in the nomination statement.

In addition to his professional achievements, Nyaoma is highly qualified academically.

He holds a Master of Philosophy in Economics from the University of Cambridge, where he studied as a Commonwealth scholar, and graduated with First Class Honours in Economics from the University of Nairobi.

He is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K), Certified Secretary (CS), and an Associate of the Kenya Institute of Bankers (AKIB). 

The President’s nomination of Nyaoma now awaits Parliament's approval, following the formal transmission of his name to the House for review and confirmation.

His nomination was part of a larger wave of selections for key state positions made by President Ruto, based on recommendations from various appointed selection panels. 

In addition to Nyaoma’s nomination, the President has also forwarded names of candidates for key roles within the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), the Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ), and the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC).

This series of nominations highlights the administration’s commitment to filling leadership roles in critical state institutions. 

The nomination, announced today, highlights President Ruto’s commitment to steering seamless transitions within key state agencies and constitutional commissions.
