Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday joined top government officials led by his successor Uhuru Kenyatta for the installation of Embu Catholic bishop.
The ceremony for the consecration and installation of Rt. Reverend Peter Kimani as Embu Diocese Bishop is also being attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his successor Kithure Kindiki.
This is the first time that Uhuru has met Ruto in public since Gachagua was kicked out as second in command.
It is also a historic day because Gachagua is coming face-to-face with Ruto for the first time since his ouster last month.
The ex-DP was first to arrive while accompanied by a section of his close allies from the Mount Kenya region to the service.
Ruto arrived later alongside Deputy President President Kithure Kindiki.
Uhuru then arrived at the venue for the ceremony also being attended by area governor Cecily Mbarire.
Hundreds of Catholic faithful and a host of political leaders from the region are attending the ceremony.
Since leaving office, Uhuru has avoided public meetings and has only been seen when leading regional peace efforts where he is a special envoy.
Last month, Uhuru attended the 15th High-Level Retreat on the Promotion of Peace, Security, and Stability in Africa to be held in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire.
Ahead of the installation, Gachagua went big on Biblical quotes, highlighting Mathew 9: 37 and 38.
"He said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field,'' Gachagua quoted from the Bible.
"I am delighted to join the Catholic faithful in the Diocese of Embu for the Episcopal Ordination and Installation of Rt. Rev. Peter Kimani is the Bishop of the Embu Diocese. Congratulations, Bishop Kimani, I wish you the very best on this day and always as you Shepherd in the vineyard of the Lord."'
Gachagua's remarks on Saturday will be closely monitored by political players, given that he is accompanied by his close allies.
