EACC Deputy Chief Executive Officer Abdi Mohamud has been nominated to succeed his outgoing boss Twalib Mbarak as Chief Executive Officer of the anti-graft body.
EACC Chairperson David Oginde announced the nomination in a notification dated Friday, November 22, 2024.
"The Commission wishes to inform the public that following a competitive recruitment process, Mr Abdi Ahmed Mohamud, MBS has been considered as the nominee for the position of Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission," Bishop Oginde said.
Before being the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the EACC, Ahmed served as Director of investigation at the commission.
"The nominee details will be forwarded to the National Assembly for vetting and consideration in accordance with the law," Bishop Oginde added.
EACC invited applicants for the position of CEO through an advertisement published on the EACC website and the print media on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.
By the close of the application deadline on Monday, October 7, 2024, the Commission received 172 applications out of which fourteen (14) candidates were shortlisted.
The list of shortlisted candidates was published in the print media on October 11, 2024.
The shortlisted candidates, apart from Abdi, were Stephen Maisha Ngowa (Kitui), Doreen Nkatha Muthaura (Isiolo), Jackson Kaunda Mue (Machakos), Joseph Vincent Onyango (Nairobi) and Paul Ndemo Maina (Kisii).
Others were Victor Omari Okongo (Siaya), Peter Lokol Lomulen (Turkana), Obadiah Kipkoech Keitany (Baringo), John Tentemo Ole Moyaki (Kajiado) and David Kiplagat Ruto Too (Uasin Gishu).
Justa Wawira Mwangi (Embu), Mohamed Abdul Mmaka (Lamu) and Waweru Karanja (Laikipia) were also on the list.
The interviews for the shortlisted candidates were conducted from 19 to 21 November 2024.
Abdi is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a seasoned investigator with a wealth of experience spanning over 30 years in the investigation of corruption and other forms of economic crimes.
He started his law enforcement career in 1989 as a Cadet Inspector at the Kenya Police Service.
He later joined the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission (KACC) in 2005 (now, EACC) as a Senior Officer in charge of the Rapid Response Division and rose through the ranks to head the Directorate of Investigation.
Abdi has undergone expansive training over the years as a career detective in corruption and economic crimes both locally and internationally with various distinguished law enforcement agencies.
He holds a Master of Science Degree in Security and Risk Management from the University of Leicester, United Kingdom, a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Mt. Kenya University and a Professional Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
