Law Society of Kenya President Faith Odhiambo has sent a message of condolences to the family and friends of Lawyer Wilfred Mutubwa who collapsed and died at his office in Nairobi on Tuesday.
Odhiambo described Mutubwa's death as a "profound loss" even as she, at the same time, celebrated the incredible legacy he left behind.
The LSK President said Mutubwa's influence on the legal profession, academia, and the wider society will continue to resonate in the lives of all those he mentored, worked with, and inspired.
“On behalf of the Law Society of Kenya, I extend heartfelt condolences to his beloved family, his wife, Virginia, his two children, as well as his colleagues and staff members,” Odhiambo said.
She added that Mutubwa's career was nothing short of exemplary having served as the advocate of the High Court of Kenya with over eighteen years of distinguished practice.
"His legal expertise and intellectual rigour were second to none, earning him the respect of both colleagues and clients alike," Odhiambo said.
She added that Mutubwa played a pivotal role in positioning Kenya as a regional leader in arbitration and mediation, contributing significantly to establishing the country as a hub for international dispute resolution.
“Mutubwa was a respected authority in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), particularly in the fields of Arbitration and Mediation. He was a Chartered Arbitrator and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb-UK). As Chairman of the CIArb Kenya Branch,” Odhiambo said.
Odhiambo also noted that Mutubwa’s academic accomplishments were equally remarkable and will remain an integral part of his legacy.
He earned his Doctor of Laws (LL.D), with a focus on International Economic Law and Trade Dispute Resolution in African Regionalism, and a Master of Laws (LL.M), both from the University of South Africa.
“Beyond his impressive publications, Dr. Mutubwa’s commitment to education and mentorship was equally significant. He served as the Dean of the Mount Kenya University (MKU) School of Law and as a lecturer at the Kenya School of Law, Riara University, and the Africa Arbitration Academy,” she added.
“May Dr. Wilfred Akhonya Mutubwa’s soul rest in eternal peace, and may his light continue to guide and inspire us for generations to come.”
