Trans Nzoia MCAs have impeached two county executives along with the county secretary Trufosa Amere.

The MCAs defied pleas from Governor George Natembeya who had asked them to spare the three because their contracts were almost expiring.

MCAs at the Assembly voted to remove from office the Gender and Sports Executive Stanley Kirui, the Lands, Physical Planning and Urban Development Executive Janerose Mutama and County Secretary Trufosa Amere.

Nineteen MCAs who were in the assembly voted in support of impeachment motions against the three.

Thirteen others who were opposed to the motions boycotted the session at the Assembly which was chaired by Koitoror MCA Kipchumba Birir.

The motion against the Lands Executive was moved by Matisi MCA Obed Mwale.

Mwale pegged his motion on the demolitions of buildings in Kitale town that saw some traders affected.

Mwale also cited the purchase of a public TV screen that was erected in Kitale town claiming no public participation was done.

“The demolitions were illegal because there were court orders in place and some of the buildings near the Kitale stadium were not part of those that were to be removed and caused unnecessary frustrations against innocent people,” Mwale claimed.

Cheranganyi/Suwerwo Ward MCA Edwin Kosgey moved the motion against the County Secretary.

Kosgey listed the possible failure to advise the governor on the decision to relocate some of the health services from the current county referral hospital to the new Kijana Wamalwa Memorial Teaching and Referral Hospital as grounds for impeachment.

Sports Executive Kirui's impeachment motion was moved by Nabiswa Ward MCA Jama Nur.

The MCAs argue that three had been given a chance before special committees to defend themselves and had denied the allegations levelled against them.

Birir said the three had appeared with their lawyers before the special committee that investigated their cases and they adequately defended themselves.

“We also served them with the report of the special committee and wrote to them to also appear before the Assembly just before we made a decision but all of them failed to appear,” Birir claimed.

Birir said the Assembly stands with its decision. He said they had already forwarded their decision to Governor Natembeya for action as required by law.
