The Director, Directorate of Criminal Investigations Mohamed Amin wants police to embrace innovative technological solutions as part of modern crime-fighting strategies.
Amin also encouraged the police to actively foster multi-agency cooperation for
better solutions.
This will
ensure several agencies are involved in the fight against crime in general.
He pointed out that as criminal behaviour evolves, so too must the methodologies employed by law enforcement agencies.
"The dynamics of modern crime require a smart, adaptive approach.
Criminals are quick to utilize emerging technologies to facilitate their
illicit activities, and law enforcement agencies must deploy advanced investigative techniques that effectively counter these threats,"
he said,
Amin urged senior police officers to remain committed to transforming the
National Police Service (NPS) into a world-class policing institution.
This call to action was delivered on Tuesday, December 3 during a session with
80 senior officers participating in the County Commanders Strategic
Leadership Course, held at the National Police Service Leadership Academy in
Ngong, Kajiado County.
During his address, Amin emphasised that the ambition to achieve a
distinguished police service hinges on the unwavering adoption of core values
such as justice, integrity, equity, participation, accountability, openness,
and civility.
These principles are essential in ensuring that the NPS delivers policing
services that are not only effective but also respected by the communities they
serve, he argued.
Highlighting the critical nature of effective policing in today’s society, Amin
said adapting to changes will ensure the police moves with the world.
The
Academy Commandant David Mathiu expressed his confidence in the direction the
National Police Service Leadership Academy is headed.
He highlighted the institution's commitment to becoming a premier centre of
excellence in training police officers.
The focus is on instilling the highest standards of competence, integrity, and discipline through a curriculum built on quality education and thorough research initiatives.
The five-week County Commanders Strategic Leadership Course is designed to enhance the senior officers’ strategic leadership competencies.
Its goal is to
facilitate effective coordination among various policing functions, thereby
creating a sense of synergy and cohesion among senior officers from the Kenya
Police Service (KPS), the Administration Police Service (APS), and the DCI.
This collaborative approach aims to strengthen the overall policing strategy
for the greater good of the communities they serve, ensuring a safer and more
secure environment for all citizens.
The service is undergoing several reforms, which require frequent training of the police.
The reforms are contained in a task force report that was tabled in 2023 and is being implemented.
