Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has asked church leaders to be honest regarding cash
donations from politicians.
Sudi
faulted some churches and bishops for turning down donations from President
William Ruto yet he had been supporting churches throughout his political
career.
The
MP said Ruto has been attending churches and donating or giving in kind even
when he was an MP and as such, it was improper for some churches to behave as
if there were no needs within the churches.
“This
is all about God’s work and no one has the right to threaten us or say they
will not receive money from Ruto because of some strange reasons,” Sudi
said.
“We
have even been threatened but the same God blessed Ruto to become President.
It's all God’s work.”
The
MP was speaking at AIC Pioneer Church in Eldoret where First Lady Rachel Ruto
also attended celebrations to mark 50 years of the
church's existence.
Uasin
Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii, nominated MP Joseph Wainaina and Health PS Mary
Muthoni were some of the other dignitaries present.
Sudi
said there was no other way churches or community projects would be
constructed except through people giving in kind.
He said
for more than half his life, he has been attending church and donating cash and
there was no way he would be stopped from doing so.
"Having
been raised in a Christian family and attended Sunday school, I strongly
believe in the biblical principle of giving and contributing to the work of
God. This understanding of scripture is the reason I will continue giving to the
church and in support of God's work.
“Even as leaders we sometimes come and
give pledges but with God’s grace, we usually get the money and deliver our
pledges.”
Wainaina
also dismissed those rejecting donations as not being worthy to be church
leaders.
He said all along, Ruto had been kind and those rejecting his donations should
not think they are punishing him.
The MP accused some of the church leaders of working to have worshippers lose
confidence in the President.
Sudi at the same time attacked social media activists who have sustained
criticism againt government projects and programmes.
He described them as "useless" people who have nothing to do but
thrive on misleading Kenyans.
The Kapseret legislator accused the social media actors of opposing noble government programmes like SHA, which he said is designed to enable Kenyans access quality healthcare.
“Personally I'm mobilising Kenyans to register with SHA because I know it will be useful especially for poor Kenyans,” Sudi said.
The MP and PS Muthoni urged Kenyans not to believe those who opposing SHA or politicising health matters.
