Makueni: Mob lynches man after killing father

A mob attacked and killed a mentally ill man after he had allegedly killed his father in a village in Kibwezi, Makueni County.

Police said the incident happened on December 9 at night in Muembeni village within the Ndetani sub-location.

Joseph Muteti, 37, is said to have attacked his father Muteti Musyimi, 72 killing him. The attack was unprovoked.

Police said the man attacked his father using a stone.

He picked up a stone and hit him in the head killing him on the spot.

His mother who was present raised an alarm alerting villagers who responded and lynched him.

The villagers used stones and sticks to injure the man fatally.

The woman told police the assailant now deceased had earlier refused to take his medicine.

She then called the husband to come and help in convincing the son to take the medicine.

It was when the father arrived home that the son confronted him with a stone killing him.

Police were called to the scene and helped to move the bodies to the mortuary.

The police said they are investigating the tragedy. Police discourage mob lynching and advise the public to always surrender suspects to authorities for processing.

Meanwhile, a man was electrocuted as he pruned a tree near a live power line in Chepngaina village, on the outskirts of Bomet town.

According to eyewitnesses, the deceased cried out for help from the top of a bluegum tree before falling to the ground, clutching the panga he was using.

Kenya Power officers stationed at the Bomet power station were quickly dispatched to turn off the electricity supply. 

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.

In Ragumo, Kisumu County a 50-year-old man was found dead after suspected drowning.

The incident happened on December 9 along the Chiga-Rabuor road at Obuso River, police said.

Police said Ezekiel Ongangi slid into the river as he crossed the site.

Locals managed to retrieve his body long after the incident had happened.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations.
