President William Ruto has nominated former IEBC commissioner Boya Molu as a member of the Public Service Commission.
Molu was among the IEBC commissioners who stood with the former chairperson of the electoral agency Wafula Chebukati during the standoff over the 2022 presidential results at Bomas of Kenya.
Molu alongside Abdi Guliye played a crucial role during the announcement of President Ruto after some commissioners led by vice-chairperson Juliana Cherera rejected the final results.
The results showed that Ruto had narrowly defeated Azimio candidate Raila Odinga in the hotly contested presidential contest.
In an ensuing scuffle at the Bomas of Kenya Molu was reportedly injured as chaos erupted at the auditorium as Chekubaki was whisked away.
President Ruto also nominated former NTSA boss Francis Meja as a member of the influential commission that oversees the recruitment of civil servants.
In a statement by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, Ruto also nominated former public service principal secretary Mary Kimonye as vice-chairperson of the commission.
Kimonye has been serving as Head of Governance and Public Service Reforms.
The President also nominated Harun Maalim, the current Executive Director of the National Council for Persons with Disabilities to be a member of the PSC.
Also nominated are former Public Service and Gender Affairs Principal Secretary Mwanamaka Mabruk and Irene Cherotich Asienga to sit on the commission.
Others nominated include former Principal Secretary of the Department of Youth Francis Otieno Owino and Joan Andisi.
The names of the nominees have been forwarded to the National Assembly which will now vet the before MPs are allowed to make their final decision in the House.
Koskei said the President exercised his constitutional mandate to make the nominations in anticipation of the vacancies that will arise in January 2025 when the terms of the officeholders will lapse.
"Accordingly, it is notified that the head of the public service and government has formally transmitted to Parliament the names of the nominees for consideration and subsequent appointment,'' Koskei said in a statement on Friday.
