IG Kanja evaluates security in Lamu and Boni

He visited officers at Pandanguo and Mokowe GSU camps and Nyongoro SOG camp.

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has praised the multi-agency security teams in the coastal region for their unwavering commitment to securing the country.

Kanja particularly highlighted efforts of officers deployed to the Lamu and Boni enclaves for their successful operations aimed at preventing insurgence of al Shabab militants into the country.

He spoke when he visited the officers in various camps in the region on Monday.

The police boss stressed that the rest of Kenyan cities are safe because of the critical role played by security teams along the Kenyan border stretching from Border Point 1 to 29.

He noted that their dedication and hard work, despite working in very challenging situations, has been of great success to the nation.

Kanaja, however, emphasised the need for the officers to remain extra vigilant especially during the festive season to ensure that safety and security prevails in the region.
The visit by Kanja was part of the ongoing security assessment in various parts of the country.
During the tour, the IG was briefed by the military officers at the Manda Bay on the current situation of Operation Amani Boni.
Some of the camps he visited are Pandanguo and Mokowe GSU camps and that Nyongoro of SOG.
He was accompanied by his deputy in charge of Administration Police, Gilbert Masengeli; GSU Commandant, Ranson Loolmodoni; Border Police Unit commandant, James Kamau, and police spokesperson Resila Anyango among other senior officers.
The National Police Service has heightened security measures across the country during the December holiday.

This includes deployment of undercover officers and specialised units to assist regular police to intensify patrols.

While addressing the press recently, Kanja said they will also utilise formed police units such as GSU, Anti-Stock Theft Unit, Border Patrol Unit and Rapid Deployment Unit to enhance security.

The IG said the deployment was informed by the expected heightened activities including public gatherings, shopping and high vehicular traffic on roads due to increased movement of Kenyans across the country.
