  • This, while urging parents to be responsible and instill positive values in their children.

A group of Kenyan scholars drawn from various sectors has added its voice to the raging debate on abductions in the country.

The Chevening Alumni Association Kenya has told the relevant security agencies to fast-track investigations and ensure the worrying trend is brought to an end.

In a statement, the association said police should explain to Kenyans who is behind the abductions since it has denied involvement as this raises concerns on the state of our internal security.

"It is worth noting that the Kenya police through the IG have disowned these actors carrying out the abductions as not being part of their force," the group said in a joint statement.

"We urge the Ministry of Interior, the DCI and the Intelligence community to quickly unravel this mystery."

The police, the group said, should also ensure that all Kenyans are accorded their due rights at all times even as security agencies work to ensure the safety and security of the nation.

At the same time, the group urged social media users to exercise restraint and responsibility in expressing their opinions.

This, while taking note of the unique capabilities of digital media.

Chevening is the UK Government’s international scholarships programme.

It is funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and partner organisations and offer awards to study in the UK for one year on a fully funded master’s degree course.

The Association brings together professionals and intellectuals from across the country and beyond in diverse industries, communities, religions, social status and age group who have benefited from the programme.

President William Ruto assured Kenyans Friday that the government will put a stop to the cases of abduction as he urged parents to be responsible and instill positive values on their children.

The Head of State said as the government, they will continue to do their part in protecting Kenyans.

Ruto made the remarks in Homa Bay county during this year's Genowa Governor's Cup held at Raila Odinga stadium.

He said the government is committed to ensuring that every Kenyan, particularly the youth, are safe and guaranteed of their security.

He, however, appealed to them to be disciplined and respectful. "Maneno ya abductions tutakomesha ndiyo vijana wa Kenya waweze kuishi kwa amani na vile vile wawe na nidhamu na wawe wangwana," he said.

(We shall end abductions so that Kenyan youth can live in peace and be disciplined and civilised as well)
