Two men suspected to be thieves were shot and killed in a botched robbery in the Sunton area, Kasarani, Nairobi County.

Police said the shooting happened on Sunday morning following a botched robbery on a man who was being attacked.

A team of police officers was on patrol in the area when they heard screams for help from someone who was under attack.

Police said the team rushed to the scene and found three men in action, trying to rob the victim prompting a brief chase.

According to police, the group defied an order to surrender and one of them had a homemade gun.

This prompted one of the officers to open fire killing two of the men.

One suspect managed to escape the drama, police said.

Police said the suspect managed to escape with injuries towards the Shilanga area.

The officers managed to recover a homemade pistol capable of firing with one round of 9mm lodged in the chamber and one machete.

The bodies were moved to the City Mortuary pending postmortem and identification.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said they have increased patrols in the city in response to cases of violent robberies.

He said they have since arrested dozens of suspects in connection with the cases.

“Some are in court for now and others are under probe. We have increased patrols and devised other measures to address this menace,” he said.

Meanwhile, a woman was questioned after she told police she stabbed and killed an intruder in Kerwa Town, Kiambu County.

The body of the deceased man was found sprawled in the woman’s house with stab wounds in the chest.

The incident happened Sunday, January 5 morning, police said.

The woman told police the slain man forcefully entered her house without her permission prompting her to grab a kitchen knife to fight him off.

The blood-stained kitchen knife was recovered and kept as murder weapon, police said.

Police said they moved the body to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations.
