Murang'a man electrocuted while pumping water to farm

Police said they arrived at the scene and confirmed the deceased was trying to pump water to his farm when he was electrocuted.

Electrocuted

A 42-year-old man was Tuesday morning electrocuted in a village in Murangá County while pumping water to his farm.

Police and witnesses said David Mwangi Waithera had connected live wires to a pump to enable him to pump water to his farm in the Kambirwa area.

He had left at about 11 am but had not pumped the water and his mobile phone was not being attended to.

This prompted his wife to go to the pan to check what was the problem.

According to police, it was then she found him unresponsive in the water.

She raised an alarm and rushed him to the Murangá Level Five Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said they arrived at the scene and confirmed the deceased was trying to pump water to his farm when he was electrocuted.

This is after a naked wire that was connected to the pump was exposed to the water.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations.

Meanwhile, police are racing to re-arrest a suspect who escaped from a police station in unclear circumstances in Narok County.

The incident happened at Tendwet police station, in Narok South Sub County, police said.

The suspect identified as Amos Koech, 19 had been detained at the station and was to be charged for the offence of defilement contrary to section 8(1)(3) of the Sexual Offences Act 2006.

Police said he had been removed from the cells for statement recording and preparation for arraignment when the drama broke out.

According to police, the suspect asked to be escorted to a pit latrine, which is outside the station.

It was then that he sprinted to his freedom and vanished into the Maasai Mau forest.

A team was mobilized to pursue him in vain.

Police said the suspect defied warning shots that were fired and vanished into the forest leaving behind a black jacket that he was wearing.

A team of senior officers visited the station as part of the probe into the incident even as the hunt for the suspect goes on.
