A 32-year-old man believed to have killed his wife and later died by suicide in Nandi County meticulously planned the two gruesome deaths, preliminary police investigations indicate.

The incident happened at Kibwareng village, Kemeloi location in Nandi South.

In a shocking case, police say they found a written note on his body which had a detailed plan on how he was to execute the murder of his wife.

The man has been identified as Hanice Simani Juma while his wife has been identified as 30-year-old Winny Akutsa.

Nandi South OCPD Peter Maina said the incident occurred at about 7 pm on Wednesday.

The man and the woman lived in Donyo, Nairobi but the woman had returned to her parents' home in the area where she was suddenly attacked by her husband.

Maina said the man struck as the woman was cooking supper in their kitchen.

Police say information obtained so far indicates that the woman had recently called the man asking him to send her birth certificates for their children so that she could use the documents to enrol the children in schools in the area.

According to the note that police found in the man’s pockets, he wrote down a detailed plan on how he would travel from Nairobi on January 13 and stage the attack to finish his wife.

“The note indicates all details including a travel plan, attack plan and how he would also kill himself after the attack," said the police boss.

The man had also detailed all his requirements for the killing.

The man, according to police, wrote in the note that he needed, fare to travel from Nairobi to West, a sharp knife, a birth certificate, a special knife, five bottles of rat poison, some bhang , a hood and a mask to cover his head, googles, a small torch and carrier bad for the items.

Maina said the man had written in the note that he would travel and spend the night at Serem market which is a short distance from the scene and that he would then head to the home to stage the attack at exactly 7 pm.

“Police found all that he had detailed as his requirements for the murder and he also staged the attack at exactly 7 pm as he had indicated in the note," said Maina.

Maina said the man had indicated in his action plan that he would drink the poison and then slit his throat so that he dies.

The man then went to the home of the in-laws where he found the woman in the kitchen cooking. He attacked her with the knife severally.

Other family members heard her screening and dashed to the kitchen where they found her in a pool of blood. They rushed her to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.

In the meantime, the man rushed out of the house and drank the position which he had already mixed and carried in a bottle after which he slit his throat.

Maina said the man and the woman are from the same area. Police say rsidents also rushed the man to the same Jumuiya Hospital near Kaimosi where he was also pronounced dead.

The hospital informed the police about the two suspicious deaths and officers rushed there.

It’s while inspecting the bodies that police found the written note in the man’s pockets.

Maina said they had visited the home where the incident occurred and that so far it was not clear why the man committed the murder.

The incident has left the area shocked and Maina said police would follow up the case conclusively.

He said it was not also clear what the couple were doing in Nairobi.
