United Democratic Alliance has moved to clarify ‘misleading’ reports on the outfit’s new top leadership following its merger with Amani National Congress (ANC).

Secretary General Hassan Omar clarified that President William Ruto is the party leader of the new outfit, known as the United Democratic Alliance Party.

Omar noted that the party now has two deputy party leaders, Kithure Kindiki (1st Deputy Party Leader) and Issa Timamy (2nd Deputy Party Leader).

Reports had indicated that Kindiki had lost the Deputy Party Leader position following the merger.

Embu governor Cecily Mbarire is the party’s National Chairperson while Omar is the Secretary General.

Kelvin Laumani is the Vice Chairperson while Emuhaya MP Omboko Milemba is Deputy Secretary General

Japheth Nyakundi is the party’s National Treasurer and Mwala MP Vincent Kawaya the National Organising Secretary.

In a statement to newsrooms, Omar expressed concerns over the unprecedented rise in fake news.

He decried “a well-orchestrated scheme of misinformation intended to detract well-meaning citizens of our nation in the various sectors and formations of government and society.”

“The alarmists are determined to ensure our various programmes aimed at uniting Kenyans and pursuing our inclusive development agenda is disrupted or scuttled,” he stated.

Announcing the merger from State House on Friday, Mbarire assured that the new party will not lock out any part of the country.

“We are no longer the party of shareholding. You do not need a certificate of shareholding to join the new formation. It is a face of united Kenya, where we ought to be,” she said.

Mbarire announced that the new party will also be rebranded ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“The party has incorporated ANC’s identity symbols in the logo, imagery, and topography and shall resultantly undertake myriad changes in the governance and structure of the party,” she explained.

She said ANC secretariat members will be included in the new formation.

“The said officials shall incorporate other staff members and integrate structure organs and modalities of ANC into the new party,” Mbarire said.
