Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has thanked residents of Western Kenya for according President William Ruto, a warm reception during his tour of the region.
Ruto concluded a successful week-long tour of Western Kenya on Friday with a rally in Bungoma Town.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Mudavadi, governors, senators, MPs, MCAs, and other leaders accompanied him.
During the tour, the President assessed key development projects, including the revival of Mumias Sugar, where he disbursed Sh150 million in bonuses to cane farmers.
Ruto promised that the government will continue to invest in the region to boost economic growth and create a thriving business environment.
Vihiga, Bungoma, and Busia counties are among the beneficiaries of the planned 400 modern markets projects, nationwide.
Another milestone was the groundbreaking of the Alupe Dam Water Supply Project in Teso South, Busia County. Once rehabilitated, the dam will store up to 300,000 cubic meters of water, ensuring clean and reliable access for thousands.
“The signs of progress are clear, including last-mile electricity connections and road network improvements, inspections of the Export Processing Zone and County Industrial Aggregation Park in Busia, and the Affordable Housing Project in Kakamega,” Mudavadi said.
The dam project targets to meet the water needs of 39,000 people immediately and 92,000 by 2046.
The dam, which will take two years to build, will cost Sh750 million, with Sh470 million going for construction while Sh280 million will be spent on last-mile water connectivity.
The industrial park in Busia is expected to employ more than 5,000 residents directly, while hundreds of thousands of others will be engaged indirectly.
The government is setting up such industrial parks in all the 47 counties to spur economic growth, enhance livelihoods, and provide jobs for the youths.
Mudavadi also appreciated Ruto for convening a second
Cabinet meeting in Kakamega in less than two years, reaffirming his
administration’s commitment to the region’s development.
Mudavadi urged the people from Western to remain committed to supporting the President’s development agenda and work.
