Merishaw School

Located in Isinya-Kajiado County, Merishaw School is an institution that not only transforms boys into men but also focuses on developing talents and life skills from both local and international students.

It is a state-of-the-art private boys’ high school offering the national curriculum under the 8-4-4 system (Form 1-4) and the new Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) at both junior and senior secondary school levels (Grade 7-12).

Merishaw School has six pillars that transform it into an iconic institution.

The STEM Programme Pillar is a big step towards aligning with global educational trends.

The institution, a futuristic school, is moving towards STEM education due to its effectiveness in preparing students for the future and fostering a culture of innovation.

STEM is also a unified approach to addressing real-world challenges with projects that often tackle real-world issues, fostering a sense of purpose and civic responsibility in students. It helps them become aware of global challenges and are motivated to use their knowledge and skills to create positive change.

This is even as employers seek candidates with strong STEM skills, creativity, and adaptability in a rapidly evolving job market.

The vision for STEM education at Merishaw School is to cultivate a dynamic learning environment that empowers the boys to become innovative problem solvers, critical thinkers, and future leaders in science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics.

Through immersive experiences, interdisciplinary approaches, creativity, and a strong emphasis on hands-on learning, the institution aims to ignite a passion for STEM and equip them with the skills and mindset to thrive in an increasingly complex, technologically advanced, and creative world.

Merishaw School is intentional about developing the sporting and talent capabilities of the students.

This entails creating a supportive and nurturing environment where students can explore and excel in their areas of interest.

There are a range of sports and extracurricular activities to cater to various interests provided in the school. Some of the traditional sports include soccer, basketball, volleyball, rugby, handball, hockey, lawn tennis, indoor games (badminton and table tennis), and board games (scrabble and chess).

The institution also offers blue games including Kabbadi, fencing, baseball, cycling, softball, archery and golf. The school has experienced coaches and instructors who guide students in their chosen sports and talents.

This helps to promote a culture of participation by encouraging all boys to explore different sports and activities.

It is a requirement of the school that every boy must select at least one co-curricular and extra-curricular activity to help them discover their interests and passions. The school has international-standard facilities and equipment to support sports and talent development.

Merishaw School focuses on the holistic transformation of the boy child through the Spiritual Well-being Pillar.

Since its inception, considerable effort, time, and resources have been invested to support the boy child and guide them away from modern-day societal ills, vices, and distractions of youth life.

The Spiritual Well-being Pillar complements academics and makes intentional actions aimed at helping the boys develop godly character and become men of integrity. Through theater and drama, Merishaw School looks to advance the Performing Arts Pillar.

This is done through school plays, musicals, and improvisation/sketches, which allow students to think on their feet and create scenes spontaneously.

One-Act Plays: Shorter plays provide opportunities for students to showcase their acting skills, among others.

Digital literacy is a crucial pillar in Merishaw School due to the increasing integration of technology in almost every aspect of our lives.

It refers to the ability to use, understand, and critically evaluate digital tools and information effectively.

Incorporating digital literacy as a pillar in Merishaw will offer numerous benefits to students and prepare them for the challenges of the digital age.

This is through the incorporation of the International Computer Driving License (ICDL) and digital media arts.

Through the Social and Collaboration Pillar, the students engage in collaborations, exchange programmes, linkages and partnerships and outreaches, career fairs, and entrepreneurship.

This includes programmes such as UNITED WORLD COLLEGE (UWC), YFU (Youth for Understanding) Kenya, AFS Kenya, the Rotary Youth Exchange Program, CIEE (Council on International Educational Exchange), and ISEP (International Student Exchange Programs).

Through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), they promote a culture of social awareness, community engagement, and ethical practices among the students, faculty, and staff.

The CSR initiatives include environmental initiatives, where they educate students on the importance of environmental conservation and organise awareness campaigns.

The institution has created a school garden to teach sustainable practices and grow organic produce. The school organises regular volunteering opportunities for students at local community centers.

The school also runs donation drives for food, clothing, supplies, and other essential items to support less fortunate members of the community.

Merishaw School participates in health awareness campaigns focusing on nutrition, mental health, lifestyle diseases, and physical fitness.

The career fairs provide an excellent opportunity for students to explore different career options, interact with professionals from various industries, and gain valuable insights into potential career paths.

The objectives of the career fairs are college and career resources, career assessments, industry representation, and participating organisations, including local businesses, companies, colleges, universities, vocational schools, trade schools, and non-profit organisations.

These organisations provide diverse options for students to explore different career fields. Practical entrepreneurship prepares students for their future careers and fosters valuable skills that will serve them well throughout their lives.

Merishaw School is advancing entrepreneurship skills through the establishment of a business club or entrepreneurship programme.

Merishaw School has clubs and programmes dedicated to entrepreneurship. These provide a platform for students to collaborate, exchange ideas, and gain practical experience through projects and activities.

The school invites successful entrepreneurs, local business owners, or professionals from various industries to share their experiences with the students.

These interactions offer valuable insights and inspiration. By organising business plan competitions within the school to encourage students to develop and present their entrepreneurial ideas, the school intends to create the Merishaw version of Lion’s Den.

The Institution will connect students with local entrepreneurs or business professionals who can mentor them and provide guidance on their entrepreneurial endeavours.

The school encourages students to identify community needs and come up with entrepreneurial solutions to address them. For example, they could organize fundraisers, and charity events, or develop social enterprises.

By incorporating financial literacy lessons into the programs, it helps students understand budgeting, basic accounting, and responsible financial management.

All these activities shaping the boychild at Merishaw School are well demonstrated with how our school has managed to outshine established high school giants in the country to become the top-performing institution in the recently released 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.

Under the leadership of former Alliance High School Principal David Kariuki, Merishaw School achieved an impressive mean score of 10.5686, equivalent to an A- (minus).

Notably, seven students scored straight A’s: Kamau Nate Gitonga (84 points), Cyril Baraka Onyango (84 points), Joshua Githinji Kirimi (83 points), Mburu David JohnBosco (82 points), Mwaura Justin Kihiko (81 points), Wambuga Charles Christiano (81 points), and Yasir Mohammed Elmi (81 points).
