Mwangangi urged the Kenya Kwanza administration to also protect and defend independent offices.
The DG said the government and its officials must live up to their oath of office, which affirms that they must defend and protect the Constitution.
Mwangangi said reports that some security officers assigned to Chief Justice Martha Koome were recalled could signal ulterior intentions.
“As per our Constitution, the Judiciary is independent and there is a need for everybody to respect constitutionalism,’’ Mwangangi said.
Police had clarified that only three of the total security officers attached to the CJ were recalled for promotional courses as provided for under the National Police Service Standing Orders.
The National Police Service affirmed that the recall did not in any way compromise the security of the Chief Justice.
The Machakos deputy in command warned that any attempt by any state officer or politicians to undermine the independent institutions would breed anarchy.
“The only way we can have law and order in this country is to respect independent institutions and offices, especially the judiciary so that we defend constitutionalism,’’ Mwangangi said.
The
government has affirmed that it has no intention to undermine independent institutions
and will do everything to safeguard their mandate.
President William Ruto has previously affirmed his support for the judiciary to exercise its mandate without executive interference.
