The National Police Service Commission has announced that it is engaging with stakeholders in preparation of a recruitment exercise and flagged fake hiring advertisements circulating online.

The commission said it will issue an official announcement regarding the next police constable recruitment exercise through established and credible communication channels.

It noted with concern a fake advertisement circulating on social media purporting to advertise and announce the recruitment of police constables.

“We wish to categorically state that the mandate to recruit and appoint persons to serve in the National Police Service rests solely with the commission, as provided under Article 246(3) (a) of the Constitution of Kenya. Any communication regarding police recruitment can only originate from the commission,” a statement by the commission to the media reads in part.

The commission stated that it is currently engaging with “key stakeholders in preparation for a legitimate recruitment process, in line with its constitutional mandate.”

The commission urged the public to exercise vigilance and refrain from engaging with fraudulent advertisements, which it said are designed to mislead and exploit unsuspecting individuals.

The National Police Service on Wednesday flagged a fake poster announcing the recruitment of police constables.

Police said the fake poster has been making the rounds on social media, calling on Kenyans to ignore it.

"Fake! Purported recruitment into the national police service," NPS said in a statement on X.

In the fake poster, they listed the entry requirements, information on the commencement of the recruitment, and how to make the application.

The government had earlier announced that it will this year recruit at least 10,000 police officers.

Interior Principal Secretary PS Raymond Omollo noted that the National Assembly allocated a budget for 5,000 police recruits but said the ministry will engage MPs to increase funding to enable the government to double the number of recruits.

“We will work with government officials and elected leaders so that more young people are recruited to the police service,” the PS said.
