A 25-year-old man was shot and killed in a standoff at a home in Ujwanga village, Ugenya, Siaya County.

The man is said to have confronted and chased his parents and other siblings out of their compound while armed with a machete on Wednesday night.

Police were informed of the case and they rushed to the scene and found him seated on a sofa.

According to police, on noticing the presence of the team in the compound, the man stood up and approached them while wielding a panga prompting one of the officers to shoot him.

He was then rushed to Ambira Sub County Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The panga, the weapon used in the shooting and two spent cartridges were recovered and kept as exhibits, police said.

The body of the man identified was moved to the mortuary for postmortem.

A team of police visited the home on Thursday as part of the probe into the shooting.

They want to understand what transpired to lead to the confrontation that turned tragic.

Meanwhile, police in Rachuonyo, Homa Bay County are investigating an incident where a man was found dead in Kolondo village.

The man was identified as Joseph Othim Amora, 43.

Police said the belly of the man was slit and all intestines exposed.

Police said preliminary investigations showed the man was attacked by people who raided his home on Wednesday night.

The motive of the murder is yet to be established, police said.

The body was picked up and taken to the mortuary pending investigations.

A team of detectives is camping in the village in an effort to arrest the suspects and establish the motive.

The area has been reporting increased cases of murder.

Police say they are solving the incidents and some of them are pending in courts.
