Tragedy as minor drowns in bucket full of water in Uthiru

Police are investigating an incident in which a one and three-month-old baby boy drowned in a bucket full of water in the Uthiru area, Kiambu County.

The incident happened on Thursday, January 30 morning.

The police said the mother of the child informed them the child had been left under the care of her parents and that he drowned in a water bucket at 3 am.

The child is said to have woken up when the house help and his sister aged 11 years were asleep.

He then stumbled to the bucket unheard in the house and drowned therein.

He was found in the bucket by his brother.

He alerted the housemaid who offered first aid to the child and informed the grandfather before they rushed the child to Eagles Hospital Kangemi where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body was moved to Chiromo mortuary awaiting postmortem, outgoing police boss Adamson Bungei said.

He said they are investigating the incident.

Such accidents are common in homes. Police advise parents and guardians to take care of such young children.

Elsewhere in Othoro, Rachuonyo, Homabay County a woman was found dead in a river after suspected drowning.

According to police, the body of Alice Awino Atieno, 44 was found floating in river Awach within Kokumu village.

The deceased was last seen on January 26 in Ringa Market, police said.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other procedures.

Meanwhile, a conductor of a lorry was electrocuted as he offloaded sawdust in Athi River, Machakos County.

Police said Anthony Njuguna was in the company of his driver and was offloading the product when he accidentally touched a live wire in the mining area.

The two were offloading the product within the compound of a private company on Wednesday evening when the incident happened.

Witnesses said the conductor accidentally touched a sagging Kenya power live wire using a metallic spade and was electrocuted.

He died on the spot and the body was moved to Shalom Community Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
