A former Vision 2030 top executive in Former President Mwai Kibaki's administration is among a list of big names eyeing the Principal Secretary post even as Kenyans await a major reshuffle in President William Ruto’s government.
Andrew Toboso was among the shortlisted and interviewed candidates for the PS post.
He was interviewed for the position on Tuesday last week.
Tobos served as Director of Strategy, Planning and Marketing at the Kenya Vision2030 Delivery Board for four years (2009-2013) before pursuing other interests.
"I am an accomplished technocrat with over 25 years of progressive senior leadership experience spanning the private, public, legislative, and international arenas," a statement on his LinkedIn profile reads.
In his capacity as Director, he provided strategic leadership in the development and review of various national and sectoral strategies to support programs and projects under Vision 2030.
He left Kenya Vision2030 Delivery Board to join politics, which saw him elected the Member of Parliament for Butere between 2013 and 2017.
During his tenure, he was the Chairman of the Kenya Parliamentary Network on Population and Development.
He was also a member of the Finance, Planning, Trade and Tourism Parliamentary Committee and was ranked among the top ten performing MPs in the utilisation of CDF (according to the National Auditor-General's Report of 2016).
Currently, Toboso works as a consultant where he coordinates the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) activities in the COMESA/SADC region, particularly in Malawi, Zambia, Tanzania, Botswana, and Zimbabwe.
He also offered advisory services to COMESA/SADC governments and key stakeholders on globally significant matters.
Previously, before joining the Kenya Vision2030 Delivery Board, Toboso worked as the Deputy Director of Planning at the Kenya Wildlife Service, where he played a pivotal role in developing, formulating, and reviewing marketing and business development strategies to optimize organizational benefits.
He was instrumental in the development of a national branding strategy for Kenya's national parks, as well as the creation and implementation of a robust customer relationship management system (Safari Card).
Toboso holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Moi University, a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from Kenyatta University, and a Balanced Scorecard Master Professional qualification from George Washington University in the USA.
He is further a Fellow of Said Business School, University of Oxford (UK).
He has previously worked at Eveready Batteries (EA) Ltd and Amedo Centres Kenya Ltd in managerial positions between 1994 –2005.
