Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has
asked his Murang’a counterpart Irungu Kang’ata to make public his stand
regarding the future of the Mt Kenya region ahead of the 2027 elections.
Kahiga told Kang’ata that it
was time he stopped sitting on the fence and instead, makes his stand known even
as realignments continue in the Mt Kenya region.
‘’We would like to tell
Kang’ata to listen to the ground since we are going to follow the direction in
which the Mt Kenya kingpin will declare,’’ Kahiga said.
The Nyeri governor was
responding to Kang’ata who in his earlier address said he was now committed to
delivering his campaign promises to the people of Murang’a County.
Kang’ata had tactically
avoided taking sides regarding the future of the Mt Kenya region despite the region recently witnessing high-octane politics that seek to ensure the vote-rich area charts a new political path ahead of the next general elections.
‘’During the period when
President Ruto and Gachagua came to Murang’a, they told me two things; one was
to focus on delivering services to Murang’a residents and two was to offer
solutions to the challenges facing Murang’a citizens…and that remains as my
stand’’ Kang’ata said.
But Kahiga in a spirited push
to have Kang’ata declare his political side soonest saw him insist that whoever
fails to align with Former DP Rigathi Gachagua will have his goose cooked in
the next elections.
He maintained that the Mt
Kenya region will remain solidly united under Gachagua adding that they will religiously follow the direction he would give.
‘’We will follow the direction given by this
guy,’’ he said in reference to Gachagua
Kinyua is a close ally of Gachagua,
who was also present at the burial ceremony.
Several members of parliament
were also present.
The remarks come at a time
when Gachagua is working on a new political vehicle that he said will carry and
champion the interests of the Mt Kenya region going forward.
He maintained that the region
has completely severed ties with the UDA party, an outfit they voted for to the
last man in the 2022 General Elections.
On Sunday, in an interview
with vernacular radio and TV stations from the Mt Kenya region, the DP said he will
unveil the political vehicle in May this year.
He noted that he shelved plans
to unveil the party in February because of sabotage.
“For strategic reasons, I will not announce the party today. I will announce in May, we will launch the party in a colourful ceremony,” he said.
