World Radio Day

The Media Council of Kenya (MCK), in partnership with Aga Khan University and the Kenya National Commission for UNESCO, will commemorate World Radio Day under the theme "Radio and Climate Change."

This year's theme is particularly relevant as global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and secure climate financing intensify.

The media plays a vital role in reporting on both the progress made and the challenges journalists encounter when covering climate change.

The event will focus on raising awareness of the importance of climate change reporting, building the capacity of journalists in this field, and fostering collaborations to address the challenges they face.

These challenges include ensuring the safety of journalists, improving access to information, and strengthening fact-checking practices.

The commemoration will bring together key stakeholders, including government officials, development

partners, media representatives, academics and journalists. It will provide a platform for discussion on The day's theme and explore solutions to the obstacles journalists face when covering climate change.

The event will be held at the Aga Khan University Graduate School of Media and Communications.

Principal Secretary Edward Kisiangani is expected to grace the event.
