A gang raided a church in Ilbilisi, Kajiado County and robbed a foreign couple of Sh260,000 and other valuables.
Police
said the incident happened at the Elmarba Full Gospel Missionary Church in Kajiado.
The
gang went to the facility on Monday morning while armed with crude weapons,
police said.
They
first gained entry to the church by cutting the window grills and found the two
missionaries aged 64 and 60.
Jongo
Kim, 64 and Young Me Kim, 60 are a couple and missionaries.
Police
said they tied the victims on their hands using manila ropes, ransacked the
house and managed to steal four mobile phones, a wristwatch, two laptops, a
gold necklace, one bracelet, and one solar charger, Sh2,500 and USD20.
The assailants further transferred Sh248,000 from the M-pesa account of Jongo Kim and Sh12,000 from the M-pesa of Young Me Kim.
The robbers also took away the CCTV hard drive before escaping to an unknown destination.
This
was aimed at slowing down investigations into the attack, police said.
During
the incident, the victims sustained bruises on their hands, police said adding
a hunt on the gang is ongoing.
One
black torch was recovered at the scene. Police said they are pursuing good
leads into the attack.
A
team visited the scene as part of the probe into the incident and announced
they were pursuing good leads into the same.
Police
believe the gang knew about the operations of the couple before stagig the
attack.
The
embassy in Nairobi was informed about the attack as a formality amid a probe
into the same, police said.
The
detectives want to establish who was close to the couple and knew about their
activities in the area. It is unclear how long they have been in the country,
particularly the area.
Police
said this will help in getting the gang behind the drama.
"Such attacks happen on people who have prior information on their targets," said an official who was aware of the probe.
