Juja MP George Koimburi.

Juja MP George Koimburi was Tuesday reportedly arrested by police in a probe into allegations he made.

The MP was reportedly apprehended outside his home on Tuesday morning and taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters for questioning.

He is said to have been apprehended shortly after leaving his residence on Kenyatta Road in Juja.

The arrest came after he went viral for reportedly saying that the government allegedly spent some Sh13 billion campaigning for Raila Odinga in the African Union Commission (AUC) elections,

Speaking before his arrest, the MP reportedly said that two Subaru vehicles were stationed outside his house.

Koimburi, a vocal critic of the government, had reportedly questioned the rationale for the alleged campaign spending, escalating political debate.

The Charge and Cautionary statement read in part the statements uttered by Koimburi on February 16, 2025, at PCEA Juja Farm parish, Judea Presbetary.

“The statement, knowingly to be false and calculated to advocate unrest that would constitute incitement to the government of Kenya,” read part of the charge and cautionary statement.

A section of leaders and his advocates followed him to the DCI headquarters.

His lawyer Ndegwa Njiru in a statement defended his client saying there was no problem with him demanding accountability regarding Kenya’s AUC chairperson election expenditure.

“I am at the DCI HQ representing Hon. Koimburi who has been arrested for stating the obvious that Sh13 billion was spent on Raila’s AUC chair mission….What’s wrong with calling him to account? Is it that the truth hurts?” he tweeted.
