
A businessman claims he was attacked and robbed of Sh1 million he was taking home in Suneka Town, Kisii County.
The victim said he had
closed the day’s business, which he runs in the town and was headed home when
he was confronted by men armed with a pistol and crude weapons.
The police said the man runs a Mpesa shop and a general merchants shop in the area.
He told police the
incident happened on February 17 at about 10 pm.
Two men who were armed
with a pistol and a rungu confronted him as he walked out of the shop and
grabbed a bag that contained the cash, four Mpesa agent mobile phones, an
unknown number of customers' mobile phones and Mpesa agent machines before
escaping.
During the attack, the
victim sustained a slight cut on his head.
The gang shot into the air
to scare the victim and other onlookers as they escaped in a waiting car.
Police officers on patrol
heard a gunshot and rushed to the scene but the robbers had already fled,
witnesses said.
Police say a hunt on the gang is ongoing.
Police suspect the gang knew about the operations of the
victims before they struck.
The area has been experiencing such incidents in the past months.
Those targeted are businessmen who are attacked after closing their day’s operations.
A team is pursuing the
matter as part of efforts to address such attacks.
Elsewhere, a man was shot
and wounded during a mission to arrest him in Tigoni, Kiambu County.
The victim had earlier turned violent and threatened to kill some of his relatives.
The relatives reported
the matter to police prompting a team to visit there.
Police said when a team
arrived in Kibaa village, they found the suspect trying to set their house on
fire.
The police claim when the
suspect saw them in the February 17 night drama, he aggressively charged at
them intending to injure them.
This forced one of the
officers to shoot in the air to scare him.
In the process, the
suspect was shot and wounded in the right leg and was rushed to Tigoni Level
Four Hospital for medical treatment.
Police said the suspect under
their watch before being grilled for further processing.
