Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has drummed up support for President William Ruto highlighting that the head of state has put the country on the right path.
Kingi regretted that a section of Kenyans rejected the Finance Bill, 2024 yet the proposed tax measure in it sought to reduce Kenya’s reliance on donor support.
“Let us pull together to build Kenya. Without that, we will be independent but resources to build our country will come from abroad. That is to say, will not be truly independent,” he explained.
Kingi made the remarks at the burial of Mzee Kingi Mwaruwa Mkweha, the father of Senate Speaker Amason Kingi, in Kilifi County on Friday.
Mzee Kingi passed away on February 9, while receiving treatment at the ICU of Pandya Memorial Hospital, Mombasa.
In his address to mourners, Kingi encouraged Ruto to be courageous in his endeavour to transform Kenya.
“Nobody will be sent to accomplish anything by the Almighty and not encounter problems. Even Jesus Christ came to help us and we persecuted him. Mr President, you are not Jesus Christ but you are going through the same problems,” Kingi remarked.
The Senate Speaker added that the President will have an impressive track record come 2027.
“They are burying you on the internet not knowing you’re like a seed. If they knew you are a seed, they would not be burying you because come 2027, they will be shocked at how the seed will have germinated,” he stated.
Kingi said the President is committed to developing the coast region, highlighting his order to revert port operation from Naivasha back to Mombasa.
Ruto on September 13, 2022, affirmed his promise of restoring the operations of clearing goods back to the port of Mombasa.
During the campaigns, Ruto had promised to revert the port to Mombasa County.
