At least 10 people were injured after a fire raged through structures in Kariobangi Light Industries area, Nairobi.

Police said property of unknown value was destroyed in the fire that took almost six hours to contain.

The fire destroyed three bakeries, two timber yards, car garages, two schools, a carton yard, a firewood yard, an LPG gas cylinder yard, residential houses and other structures.

The fire is believed to have broken out from one of the affected structures before spreading to others.

It was worsened by the cartons, heavy winds and the timber yard.

The incident displaced dozens of pupils of the affected schools after they turned up for school on Monday morning only to find some of their classes burnt down.

Police said it was contained later on. A team revisited the scene on Monday as part of the probe into the incident.

Nairobi police commander George Sedah said they are investigating the incident.

“We have injuries sustained as the locals fought to contain the spread of the fire. Many people are displaced following the fire,” he said.

Kenya Red Cross in collaboration with St John Ambulance attended to the victims.

Elsewhere, a man was killed in a fire incident in Kanguruwe area, Kayole, Nairobi.

Police said the victim was sleeping in one of the houses that were affected by the fire that broke out on Friday night.

It was then they realized the body of a man in the structures.
