Kikuyu MP and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has stated that his net worth to be close to Sh1 billion.
The MP demystified sentiments that he was worth Sh5 billion, saying he has never flaunted his wealth.
"I am worth close to Sh1 billion," he said.
The MP was speaking on Thursday during an interview with Al Jazeera.
Ichung’wah sais that his net worth is not largely from his salary.
"If you ask me about my wealth, I can tell you that my wealth is largely not from my salary. It is just about a billion shillings," he said.
Ichung’wah, however, said that leaders' wealth should not be judged based on their current position because they might have amassed their wealth before holding public offices.
"The perception that people who are in public service should not own or have any other thing other than what they earn from their public service position," he added.
The MP said that he has other businesses outside politics that have helped him gather his wealth.
He said that as the majority leader, he has called out members of parliament in his party and the House who flaunt their wealth.
"It matters person to person; I have never had to flaunt anything because I have nothing to flaunt. A number of those who have done that have regretted what they had to show to the public," he added.
Ichung’wah is the majority leader and a member of the United Democratic Alliance.
Ichung’wah was elected MP for Kikuyu Constituency in 2013, 2017 and 2022.
The National Assembly majority leader has been one of the close associates of President Ruto, playing a crucial role in ensuring the government agenda in parliament succeeds.

He said the implementation may take time, but with hope, the government will deliver on this mandate.
