President William Ruto has responded to media reports suggesting cunning tactics behind his successes.

Ruto instead attributed his achievements to prayers and God's favour, rejecting claims that his rise was due to trickery.

He said while many had set traps for him everywhere so that he could fail, he has succeeded because of divine intervention.

"Kuna watu walikuwa wametuwekea mitego mingi, kwanza mimi...asipoangukia hapa ataangukia pale. Leo wanasema huyo Ruto ni mjanja," he said.

"Mimi nawaambia mimi sio mjanja, ni neema ya Mungu na ni kwa sababu tunamuamini yeye. Ati kwa sababu nimeruka mtego hii na mtego na ile."
