Movement for the Defense of Democracy (MDD) has urged President William Ruto abd former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to prioritise full implementation of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report.
The lobby said the bipartisan report holds solutions to many of the challenges the country faces.
“We urge the youth and all Kenyans to actively support and demand its implementation. Our future depends on it,” the group said in resolutions reached after deliberations on Wednesday.
Among the main proposals, the NADCO report has suggested the creation of the Office of the Leader of the Official Opposition, which would be occupied by the leader of the largest party or coalition that received the second-highest number of votes in the previous presidential election.
The proposal also includes appointing at least two deputies to this office.
The report also recommends the establishment of the Office of Prime Minister. The Prime Minister would be nominated by the President and must be approved by the National Assembly before being appointed.
In a statement, MDD further said it supports the ongoing public consultations initiated by Raila on the political direction he and his ODM party should take in light of the numerous challenges the country is going through.
“Whatever decision he arrives at we will stand with him,” MDD said.
The lobby said Raila has been a pillar of social justice, good governance, constitutionalism, and economic liberation.
“As he engages in discussions with President William Ruto, we urge him to carry forward these golden principles and ensure that justice prevails.”
The group said it has noted with regret very intense efforts by many different players to drag Raila into their schemes.
“We call on people and regions that have never supported Raila Odinga in the past to leave him alone. We refuse the frequent attempts to use Raila and his support base into some ladder,” they said.
“As people and regions that have invested in and supported Raila, we have embarked on reviewing our journey in Kenya and we must be left alone, with Raila as our guide.”
