The body arrived at Kitale airstrip on Thursday evening ahead of burial on Saturday, March 8, at his Sabata farm in Kitale, Trans Zoia County.

His body was received by friends, families and some politicians.

Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi called on Kenyans to attend the burial in large numbers on Saturday and give Chebukati his last respects.

He, however, cautioned the attendees to respect the family and steer clear of political matters, saying Chebukati was a civil servant and not a politician.

“Trans Nzoia residents should come out in large numbers to condole with the family of Chebukati and give him his final respects. We are going to mourn him; no other business. I have no problem with anyone talking but no politics; he was not a politician but a civil servant. Let us wait for 2027 to talk politics,” he said.

Chebukati died February 20, 2025, after suffering a cardiac arrest while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Nairobi.

“When we went to the hospital, the information we were given then is that the doctors had tried to resuscitate him unsuccessfully,” family spokesperson Eric Nyongesa told the press last week.

According to the Nyongesa, Chebukati had been battling brain cancer, an ailment discovered in April 2023, a few months after he exited office.

Following this, he was flown to Germany, where he underwent a successful surgery to remove the tumor.

“Because of the stage in which the cancer was, the doctors recommended that he undergo an immediate surgery, and the family having explored many options, he underwent a very successful operation,” Nyongesa said.

He would later spend some time in the country recovering until July of the same year, when he returned to the country, he stated.

During this period until early 2024, he engaged in various duties in foreign countries, where he participated in electoral fora.
