It was excitement for pupils of Toi and Anyany primary schools on Thursday after the Dishi Na County school feeding programme added a chapati meal to their menue.
The pupils enjoyed the special chapati treat, courtesy of President William Ruto and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, who visited the area for a development tour.
Ruto and Sakaja personally served the warm,
freshly made flatbreads to delighted learners.
President Ruto reaffirmed his government’s support for county-led initiatives that directly impact the lives of ordinary citizens.
“Investing in school feeding programs is
investing in our future,” Ruto explained.
Governor Sakaja echoed this sentiment,
emphasizing:
“No child should have to sit in class on an
empty stomach. This program is about dignity, nutrition, and giving our
children the energy to focus on their studies.”
The special chapati meal was met with
overwhelming joy from the pupils, who cheered and shared their happiness as
they enjoyed their plates.
Parents and teachers also praised the
initiative, noting that it had significantly improved school attendance and
student concentration.
The introduction of chapati into the
program follows Governor Sakaja’s request for a chapati-making machine, which
President Ruto pledged to fund during his recent development tour in Mathare.
“The governor has asked for a machine to
incorporate chapatis into the Dishi na County menu. I will provide one that
makes a million chapatis,” Ruto confirmed.
The Dishi na County school feeding program currently benefits over 316,000 learners across 230 schools in Nairobi’s 17 sub-counties.
