Police authorities ordered full coverage on Friday as President William Ruto embarked on his fifth day of tour of Nairobi.

The president is expected to tour Eastlands’ Makadara, Buruburu, Umoja, Kayole and Embakasi.

These are deemed hardened areas and authorities ordered full coverage for general security, officials aware said.

This means more police officers will be deployed on the routes he will use in his trip, and security will be tight.

This follows a series of incidents that have dogged the tour in the past four days.

Some motorists and pedestrians were attacked and robbed by goons who took advantage of the tour.

There were also incidents of accidents, police said, adding there was one fatality involving a white man believed to be a Briton on Thursday along Ngong Road.

The car involved has been identified as being from the office of the Regional Commissioner in Nairobi and was in the presidential convoy when it hit the 79-year-old man.

Among those being deployed in the coverage are teams from the General Service Unit, those from Recce and other special squads.

“We have taken the measures for general safety of all. There will be full coverage in the area,” said an officer aware of the plans.

Ruto was in parts of Lang'ata and Kibera Constituencies on Thursday.

During the trip to the area, Ruto said they would build more classrooms and equip the Lang’ata Technical and Vocational College to train and empower more than 2,000 youth to drive our country’s economic growth.

In Lang’ata Constituency, he commissioned the Lang’ata Technical and Vocational College's affordable housing projects.

He said this will eradicate slums in Lang’ata and Kibra, turning them into estates that provide decent living conditions to people.

He also broke the ground for the construction of the Southlands Lang’ata Affordable Housing Project - Lot 5 in Mugumoini, Lang’ata Constituency.

The project will have 60 residential blocks with 15,960 residential units, two community centres and a primary school. We are eliminating cultural practices that hinder our girls from attending and completing school.

Through guaranteed access to quality learning, we can further gender equality and empower our girls to participate actively in the transformation of Kenya.

He also opened the PCEA Booth Girls’ High School-Ngong’ Forest, Nairobi County and committed to sponsor 10 vulnerable girls from each of the 17 constituencies in Nairobi to enroll in the institution.
