Police are investigating a murder after the body of a 32-year-old man was found on the roadside in Igembe, Meru County.
Police said the body of Ruphus Kirimi was found in a pool of blood after suspected murder.
The body was found lying along the Athiru-Bwetha Road Kirimampiu location on Sunday long after the victim had been
killed.
The motive of the murder was said to
be a dispute.
Police officers visited the scene and
found the body with multiple injuries on the head and both legs and in
a pool of blood.
It was established that the deceased was attacked on allegations that he assaulted their grandfather and went into hiding.
After the incident, the three suspects
escaped to an unknown location, police who visited the scene said.
Police said they are looking for known
suspects for murder charges.
The body was moved to a local mortuary
pending autopsy and investigations.
Such incidents are increasing amid calls on parties to solve their disputes amicably.
Some of the cases are pending in court,
while others are yet to be solved, police say.
Elsewhere in Gachoka, Embu County, a
man was stoned and burnt to death by a mob in a failed robbery incident.
The incident happened in Kanyariri
village and the suspect was accused of breaking into a shop.
After stoning him to death, the mob set
the man's body on fire.
Police said he was burnt beyond
recognition.
The remains were taken to the
mortuary pending autopsy and identification, police said.
Police usually discourage mob lynching
incidents.
They advise that suspects be
surrendered to authorities for processing and possible prosecution.
Police statistics show at least one person is lynched daily in the country.
Administrators have been instructed to
roll out civic education programs to address the menace in general.
This is after it emerged some victims
were framed and killed by gangs in villages.
Police say some of those who participated in past incidents were arrested and charged with murder.
