
President William Ruto has mourned the passing of former Kajiado Woman Representative Janet Marania, honouring her as a source of inspiration and a role model.
Sharing the condolences on his social media handle on Monday, the President expressed his sadness over her death and highlighted her dedication in serving her people.
“I am saddened by the passing of former Kajiado County Woman Representative Janet Marania Teyiaa. Teyiaa was a passionate and distinguished public servant who served her people with dedication,” Ruto said.
“She was a selfless team player and an inspiring role model who motivated many to pursue their dreams, despite humble beginnings.”
Offering his condolences to the family, the President assured her loved ones of his support during the difficult time while acknowledging the profound loss they were experiencing.
“Our sincere condolences go out to her family, friends, and the people of Kajiado for the loss of such a great leader. We stand with you during this period of mourning. May her soul rest in peace.”
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua also acknowledged learning of her passing and paid tribute to her contributions, especially on advocating for the people living with disabilities.
“Janet, as a young girl, saved by a social worker due to her disability in her childhood days, brimmed with the epitome of resilience and a great spirit that nothing can stop a great soul from realising their dreams especially the people who are abled differently,” Gachagua shared.
“Her contribution in Kajiado County to what ails our communities speaks volumes on her resolve, especially speaking and advocating for the people living with disabilities, which will remain in our hearts as a people.”
He reminisced about when he served the 12th Parliament with her when she represented the people of Kajiado County adding that her death had left a big gap.
“My deepest sympathies to her immediate family, to the people of Kajiado County and the people of Kenya. May her soul rest in eternal peace and perpetual light shine upon her forever ever,” the ex-DP said.
It is not yet clear what led to her sudden death.
Janet began her political career as a nominated Member of Parliament in 2013 but was later voted in as a Woman Representative of Kajiado County in 2017.
